DESCRIPTION
This project’s aim is the restoration of the ancient hospital of St.Antonio, in Lastra a Signa (Florence, Italy), renovating its role of focus in the historical core of the city. The renovation gives to the hospital a new life as a creative center, bringing in its spaces the association of local artists “ProLastra”. The main theme of the project is the portal, which acts as a connector and is applied in the new and old accesses to the building, as well as in the design of the exhibition rooms. We searched for a balance between conservation and renovation, and acted primarily on the south facade, with two new volumes overlooking the square and an external staircase juxtaposed to the old wall.
